Fire is a rapid chemical reaction known as combustion, which occurs when a fuel source reacts quickly with oxygen in the presence of heat. This exothermic process produces heat, light, and often flames, making fire one of the most visible and powerful forms of energy release.

In scientific terms, fire is the result of a self-sustaining oxidation reaction, where combustible materials are rapidly broken down, releasing energy in the form of thermal radiation (heat) and visible light.

For a fire to start, three essential components must be present simultaneously. This is known as the Fire Triangle:

Fuel – A combustible material like wood, paper, cloth, or flammable liquid.

Heat – Enough energy to raise the fuel to its ignition temperature.

Oxygen – Usually from air, to support the chemical reaction.

Without even one of these elements, fire cannot ignite or sustain. Fire safety systems work by removing or disrupting one of these components.
